Kids and Teens Therapy

Being a kid in this world is tough. There are technology challenges, cultural challenges, education struggles, and relationships that are ever changing. Sometimes it takes a little - or a lot - of support for children and adolescents to make it through those early developmental stages with their sense of self intact.

At The Journey Center, we have several therapists who can walk this developmental journey with children, starting at age 6, all the way through high school and into adulthood. We love being that safe place for children and adolescents to process their feelings, discover their identity, and learn about healthy relationships throughout the continuum of development. We also love supporting young people through the really hard things in life, like trauma, assault, divorce and split families, and life altering medical conditions. All of our therapists are trauma-informed and LGBT allies.

When working with us, your first appointment will be a joint appointment with the child or adolescent and at least one custodial parent. If the parents are divorced or separated but share health care decision making, we will need written permission from both parents before starting therapy with the child. For subsequent sessions, a non-custodial caregiver can be present for the session if needed. Updates about progress will be made periodically and any time it is requested by either the parent or young person, without breaking confidentiality. In the event of a life-threatening issue, the custodial parent will be notified immediately.
