Perinatal Mental Health

A beautiful time of wonderment and sweetness. An experience filled with bliss and love and ease. These are the cultural messages about pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. We know that these experiences are possible, and most parents hope for that experience. We also know that loneliness, depression, intense anxiety, grief and loss, isolation and fear of the future, and episodes of psychosis are also possible.

These negative experiences can happen up to 2 year after birth! It is more common than we talk about, and is often misdiagnosed or brushed off as “baby blues.”. You do not have to go through these experiences and emotions alone. Individual and group therapy is very helpful and can help ease the burden of these painful experiences of parenthood.
